Anaemia Screening in Pharmacy

Anaemia is a condition where the number of red blood cells that carry oxygen around the body are insufficient to meet the body’s needs. While anaemia isn’t a disease in itself, it is the result of an issue somewhere in the body and is an important public health issue in Australia. The most common form of anaemia is iron-deficiency anaemia, symptoms of which may include fatigue or tiredness, a fast heartbeat, dizziness, or shortness of breath.1

Pharmacists can help you screen for anaemia at the pharmacy such as through a quick finger prick test during a consultation. Learn more by speaking with your pharmacist.
